Between last month’s Heroes of Time event and this weekend’s T1.Done fundraiser, the speedrunning community is making a huge impact in the fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D) this spring.

In March, a crew of content creators teamed up for Heroes of Time, a speedrunning charity event celebrating the Legend of Zelda franchise. Ten days of community charity streams were capped off by an IRL weekend fundraiser, with the 33-person team ultimately raising just over $50K across various Zelda speedruns and challenges.
Speedrunning and countless Diet Cokes consumed, but why does it translate so well into fundraising? This Breakthrough T1D blog post breaks it down:
Back for its third year, T1.Done is a two-day speedrunning event organized by Nukkuler (a Breakthrough T1D Play team member who lives with T1D) and hosted by Spikevegeta.
The phrase “dot done” comes from the competitive speedrunning scene: during a competition, players type “.done” in the chat to indicate that they have completed their run and stop the timer. The goal of this event is to raise money to “.done” T1D!

Our annual spring fundraiser, Creators for Cures, returns May 10–17… with a twist! This year we’re mixing it up with no themed days, which means you can stream whatever you want, whenever you want.
