8BitVal

8BitVal
8BitVal has been a type 1 diabetic for more than 15 years, being diagnosed a bit later in life. She is currently on a Medtronic pump and CGM treatment, which she absolutely adores. Val streams art on Twitch, does storytimes and tutorials on YouTube, and is an all-time goofball. A firm believer that positive thinking brings positive outcomes, she tries her best to teach her son the same and bring positive vibes and a ton of (good) chaos to her streams.

The Ready Type 1 stream team has helped Val connect with other type 1 diabetics, something that had not been possible for her until then. She has met so many amazing, strong people and families affected by T1D and is proud to be able to raise funds every now and then for this very cause. She hopes to be able to do much more in the future, too!

A tree hugger, joker, insulin injector, and all-around entertainer, Val hopes to make a change in people’s lives, T1D or not.

She's very grateful Breakthrough T1D asked her to be an Ambassador and looks forward to continuing to work with Breakthrough T1D in the future.

Baldabetic

Baldabetic
Alex lives in Ontario, Canada, and has had type 1 diabetes since June 2010. He streams on Twitch as Baldabetic. The focus of his content is music performance, where he usually performs song requests for viewers on bass and guitar, using Rocksmith 2014. Metal is his favourite genre to play by far, but he also handles rock and funk styles with confidence.

Alex started using his growing stream community to help fundraise for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) in 2020. This has been a meaningful experience, allowing him to turn his diagnosis into a positive. Since then, diabetes advocacy has been a central part of his content and persona online, and he encourages chatters to ask questions about his experience. He also has a live blood sugar readout on his stream, a fairly unique feature on Twitch that provides extra visibility to the live, moment-to-moment dealings with this disease.

He's a true believer in the power of music bringing people together for great causes. His hope is to harness the power of heavy music to make a difference in the fight against diabetes. Feel free to drop by for a song request!

Burnswheels

Burnswheels
Robert Burns (aka Burnswheels) is a type 1 diabetic who also lives with spina bifida, which left him with partial paralysis from the waist down. He was diagnosed with T1D at the young age of five after his kindergarten teachers brought up concerns to his mom, who then took him to get tested.

Throughout his life since his diagnosis, Robert has gone through several different treatment options, starting with insulin injections of both long- and short-acting insulin. He was then switched over to the insulin pump at around ten years old, which was a whole new world because he no longer had to be super strict about when or what he could eat. He is now using a guardian sensor CGM along with his pump, which has been the best change in the technology he has used for T1D care.

Robert is an adaptive athlete, sometimes found on the bike trails in his racing wheelchair. Being a T1D athlete has its issues, but he has managed to find ways to avoid most lows when he's active. He started streaming on Twitch in 2020, invited by friends to join a group of streamers focused on charity. This was a lot of fun, but he wanted to do more than the charities they focused on, so he started streaming for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) in 2022 and became a Ready Type 1 Ambassador in 2024.

Since then, Caleb has raised money in Breakthrough T1D Walks and their amazing Breakthrough T1D Play program. He can’t thank everyone enough for supporting such a wonderful cause. While Caleb will always miss Blac, he hopes that, someday, no one else will have to go through that loss.

He doesn’t have an insulin pump yet, but hopefully that will change soon. On stream, you’ll sometimes hear his phone yelling at him for being high. Don’t panic, it’s all under control (probably).

Dark Insanities primarily streams space games, because space is cool. You’ll also find him playing platformers such as Hollow Knight & Celeste, or roguelites like Hades. Fern has even written two songs, “Hope” and “Warrior,” in honor of her relationship with Breakthrough T1D and her battle with chronic illness.

Fern’s music can be found on all streaming platforms. Find links to her music, socials, and of course her Twitch channel, here.

Spiced Eliastrations

Spiced Eliastrations
SpicedEliastrations (aka Elia) was diagnosed in 2000 at eight years old and remembers JDRF (now Breakthrough T1D) being there to offer not only resources to help learn the ropes, but also awesome support. Art and creativity has been a go-to outlet over the years and have helped Elia connect with lots of people. She's been illustrating professionally for about fifteen years.

As Elia has grown as a creator, she wanted to use her platform to give back, so being a Ready Type 1 Ambassador alongside her peers and community is an absolute honor. TeeOneDee

TeeOneDee
TeeOneDee (aka Josh) was diagnosed with T1D at the age of eleven. It was a tough time for him mentally, as he was starting a new school at the same time. Charities like Breakthrough T1D have been a huge help to him during his life, not just for the physical, but for the mental health side too.

He started his Twitch channel as a way to raise money and support diabetes-related charities, starting with a twenty-four-hour stream that he did through his Xbox with nothing but a headset microphone. He plays all kinds of games on stream, sometimes alone and sometimes with others. He's also branched out into raising money for all kinds of charities, just to give something back.

TerribleBoops

TerribleBoops
TerribleBoops was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age twelve in 1998, after some extended struggles with multiple illnesses. At the time, resources for herself and her family weren’t as prevalent as they are today in the age of the internet. While help and support groups did exist, they were harder to find and attend in a lot of cases, especially depending on physical proximity to medical centers. Boops personally faced a lot of challenges adjusting to life with T1D, which made attending school and just trying to grow up and spend time with friends extremely difficult. From managing T1D with the older technology and nutrition advice of the time, to a general lack of understanding from the people and institutions around her, T1D always felt like a massive mountain to overcome. This is why she’s so excited to be working with Breakthrough T1D Play as a Ready Type 1 Ambassador, with the hopes that she can be part of the driving force to help spread knowledge, information, and understanding about this disease while also supporting the efforts to find better ways to manage, prevent—and most importantly—cure T1D once and for all. TheKoolEagle

TheKoolEagle
TheKoolEagle has been a type 1 diabetes advocate since 2019. He has a friend who has had T1D since they were in high school together, but other than helping him a few times with lows, TheKoolEagle didn't really see the big picture of T1D. That changed when his son was diagnosed at just 15 months old and their family was dropped into a world of stress and micromanagement to keep him healthy and alive. These days TheKoolEagle is committed to doing whatever he can to help ease the symptoms of T1D or outright cure it.

TheSolidHair

TheSolidHair
Andrew Hair (aka TheSolidHair) has been playing video games since he was four years old, when his parents first bought him a NES. His dad would take him to Blockbuster every Friday after school to rent a video game and he'd spend all weekend trying to beat it.

During his senior year of college, while working as a video game developer, he was diagnosed with type 1. He had always taken care of himself, had a healthy diet, and was physically fit, so the diagnosis came as a shock to everyone. His mom cried, he got angry, and other people couldn't believe he'd been diagnosed with diabetes.

After his diagnosis, he had the idea to combine his passion for video games with his disease to try and raise money for charity. With the help of friends and family, fellow game developers, and Breakthrough T1D, he's been able to raise money by streaming for charity each and every year. Video games may have turned from a hobby into a career, but now he's passionate about raising money for an organization whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes as well as to improve the lives of all people affected by this disease.

TheSuperBetic

Time Travelling Protoype

Time Travelling Protoype
TimeTravellingProtoype (aka William Smith) runs a couple of Twitch channels, one of which is primarily focused on nostalgic TV and commercial programming, and another focused on the study of many different martial arts and self-defense techniques. His partner has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since 2019, and he also has close friends and family with type 2, so the cause of raising money for research into diabetes and medications to assist those suffering with it is close to him. William has Crohn's disease and has a great deal of sympathy for the challenges that disabilities, especially those which present as invisible illness, can cause people.

Outside of streaming, he spends a lot of time practicing martial arts, taking care of his four cats (Smudge, Lotus, Tinsel and Luna), and playing video games. He has been raising money for charities on Twitch since 2018 and was generally inspired by GamesDoneQuick. He hopes the Ready Type 1 Ambassadors can all work together to raise funding for research that can change the lives of those he knows who are dealing with diabetes, and he's grateful that Breakthrough T1D provides an outlet to do that fundraising.

Twak

Twak
Twak was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2005, at seven years old. Because he's had diabetes for the majority of his life, it's now second nature. Every day he does things like calculate insulin, inject himself, draw blood, and monitor blood sugars. He's always mindful of small changes in how he feels, in case he gets low or high, and has to limit what physical activity he can do in order to not let his blood sugar plummet.

Of course, living with T1D has gotten easier over time. The advancements in diabetes care and technology that Breakthrough T1D helps boost have made Twak's life less painful, stressful, and complicated. That's why he's spent many hours volunteering and raising money for Breakthrough T1D events, including the Breakthrough T1D Play streaming fundraisers.

Xatmamune

Xatmamune
Xatmamune didn't expect to spend his birthday in 2023 with his son in the hospital, but there they were. A chance viewing of a YouTube video about "signs you may have type 1 diabetes," combined with troubling behavior from his then seven-year-old son, led Xatmamune to the pediatrician, then the ER, then being admitted and learning a whole new way of life. They left three days later with a T1D confirmation and a new path to follow.

Shortly after his son's diagnosis, Xatmamune looked for ways he could turn his core love of gaming into fuel for the cause of finding a cure for T1D. Having streamed on Twitch in the past, he got an idea to resurrect his channel and start a unique journey. His quest now is to play and beat every single game on Steam at random until a cure is found! He feels fortunate to have also found a strong community with Breakthrough T1D Play, and is grateful for the opportunity to bring awareness and raise money for the cause! Mother Nature didn't know what dad she picked a fight with when she chose Xatmamune's son!
